Women in The University of Bamenda from across all levels have taken the commitment to play a front role in the society and make efforts towards becoming societal role models. This was the outcome of a one day women’s day conference organized by the university of Bamenda women March 5th 2025 on campus to examine ways they can better the society at their respective levels.
The chairperson of the conference committee, Professor Esther Chie said the themes of the conference were carefully selected from this year’s them; for all women and girls, rights, equality and empowerment. She emphasized that women needs to be informed to protect themselves from discrimination and exploitation adding that equality between men and women is not a fifty/fifty agenda, it is all about giving the woman what she deserves and giving the man what she deserves. she challenge the women to empower themselves and gain employment as dependence on a man breeds violence.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge Of Teaching and Professionalization of Information Communication,DVC TIC Professor Suh Cheo Emmmanuel who represented The Vice Chancellor, described the conference as a vital learning opportunity for the university’s women to better understand gender equality, better understand their rights and make the society a better place.
The one day event on campus organized under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor of the university of Bamenda, Professor Theresia Nkuo-Akenji, featured paper presentations on the legal protection of women and girls, social engineering, practical perspectives of equality and women empowerment as well as electrifying slots dedicated to spoken word poetry, fashion parade and standup comedy.
