Professor Tsi Evaristus Angwafo has been installed as the new Director of the College Of Technology, COLTECH, in the University of Bamenda. He was installed into his new function by the Vice Chancellor of The University of Bamenda, Professor Theresia Nkuo-Akenji September 27th on campus.
In her installation address, UBa Vice Chancellor, Professor Theresia Nkuo-Akenji described the new director as no new comer to COLTECH given that He had served previously in the School as Director of Studies between July 2021 and June 2022 from where he was appointed Director of the Higher Technical Teacher Training College. The Vice Chancellor called on the new director to continue in the footsteps of his immediate predecessor who has put the school in a good foot in line with research and outreach.
“You are expected to train both middle and high-level manpower mostly for the industrial and private sectors. This therefore calls for a more innovative technological input alongside quality assurance. COLTECH has virtually all what is needs to give it more visibility. We count so much on COLTECH as far as Agriculture in its broadest sense is concerned” the Vice Chancellor said.
She announced that in its drive to enhance research and boost the professional and technical capacity of both UBa staff and students, the university, September 21, 2023, signed an MoU between the Ministry of Agriculture, MINADER. The VC urged professor Angwafo to adopt an inclusive policy and tap from the rich and diverse human resources in COLTECH to make this dream a reality.
You are taking over a school where your predecessor in the person of Professor Mathias Fonteh has perched the school very high in research and outreach. COLTECH is running a RUFORUM grant and is actively involved in the preparation of the forthcoming 19th Annual General Assembly Meeting of the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture, RUFORUM to be hosted by Cameroon next month under the high patronage of the president of the Republic, Head of State, Paul Biya. I therefore urge you to continue in this direction” the Vice Chancellor revealed.
To the outgoing director of the school, Professor Mathias Fonteh who had been at the helm of the institution for the past five years, the Vice Chancellor, while wishing him well in his new function as the new director of The College of Technology in the University of Buea, paid glowing tribute for the past five and the half years he held the forte in the College of Technology despite the socio-political challenges. She highlighted his collaborative spirit, constant quest for new ideas, innovation and technology adding that the values contributed in earning COLTECH the reputation it now enjoys in the higher education landscape nationally and internationally.
Professor Tsi Angwofo’s reappointment to the prestigious College of Technology comes less than two months after he was called to other duty by a presidential decree of July 4, 2023 which appointed Prof Eyong Kenneth to take over from him as the Director of the Higher Technical Teacher Training College, HTTC. He replaced Professor Mathis Fonteh as director of the college of technology. The installation ceremony was graced by university officials, the fons of Bambui, Bambili and the fon of Mankon as well as guests.
