UBa's VC Takes Part in ODL Workshop in Nigeria
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda, Professor Theresia Nkuo Akenji led a delegation to the Regional Training Workshop on Quality Assurance Mechanisms for Emerging Issues in Open Distant Learning Programmes in West Africa.
The conference that held at the National Open University of Nigeria, tackled emerging issues such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning, the growing use of open educational resources and learning analytics, the use of micro-credentials and other innovative approaches.
The conference attended by institutions, regulators, policymakers, practitioners and researchers from across the West African Zone, provided a platform for the participants to reflect on shared challenges and exchange of experiences as well as develop solutions that are relevant to the realities of the West African Region.
Participants drawn from UBa and six other universities from Nigeria, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Togo and Gabon, expressed hope that the deliberations will generate practical recommendations that will strengthen institutional quality assurance systems and contribute to the continuous improvement of ODL Programmes throughout the region.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Teaching, Professionalisation and Development of Information and Communication Technologies of the University of Bamenda, Prof. Suh Cheo Emmanuel, presented a keynote address on the University of Bamenda’s experience on ODL policy citing the putting in place of the Learning Management System, LMS inbuilt with data analytics and quality assurance tools that allows interactivity between students and lecturers.
The Abuja workshop was organised by the Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning, RETRIDOL and the Commonwealth of Learning, COL.
