HEALTH: The University Of Bamenda Host Two–Week Paediatric Oncology Nursing Course

Some Twenty-Five Nurses comprising Pre-Service and In-Service Nurses on Paediatric Oncology have gain foundation level specialist knowledge on Paediatric Oncology. This was during a two-week seminar that folded up in the university recently organized. Facilitators at the two-week seminar applied a harmonized foundation training package prepared by the sub-Saharan Africa Paediatric Oncology Nursing Network and endorsed by the African Board of International Society of Paediatric Oncology. The team also applied harmonized national modules for early detection of childhood cancers and Paediatric Palliative Care prepared by the Cameroon Paediatric Oncology Group and the National Committee for the Fight against Cancer. Speaking at the opening of the Two -Week Seminer, The Deputy Vice Chancellor In Charge of Teaching, Professionalization and Development of Information and Communication Technologies, DVC/TIC in The University of Bamenda, challenged Nurses and Faculty Of Health Sciences Officials/FHS in the University to exploit the two week capacity training to gain more knowledge and provide solutions to the health challenges that continue to threaten society. Professor Suh Cheo Emmanuel,who represented the Vice- Chancellor, used the occasion to salute the contribution of the Cameroon Nursing Association, Faculty officials and researchers in their efforts of nation building in the health sector and called on them to always remain ambassadors of the institution at home and abroad. The Certificate of Completion awarded to the participants at the end of the two-week course attests to their acquisition of specialist knowledge on: Early detection and referral of childhood cancers, Basics of cancer biology, diagnosis and management, Safe handling of chemotherapy, Management of chemotherapy side effects and oncologic emergencies, Counselling and psychosocial support to children with cancer and their families Nutrition support in paediatric cancer management and a lot more.
