4th UBa Registrar Commissioned Into Office

Professor Kongnyuy Patrick appointed by a Presidential decree on May 26, 2021 has officially assumed his functions



The newly appointed Registrar of the University of Bamenda, UBa, Professor Kongnyuy Patrick appointed by a Presidential decree on May 26, 2021 has officially assumed his functions and has been tasked to prioritize collaboration in the discharge of his duties.

He was installed on Thursday May 27, 2021 at Amphi theatre 340 of the university in a brief and restricted ceremony limited only to senior university officials in respect of COVID-19 barrier measures and presided at by the Vice Chancellor of UBa, Prof Theresa Nkuo -Akenji.

Prof. Kongnyuy Patrick who is the Fourth Registrar since the university was created in December 10, 2010 replaces Professor Tani Victor Banlilon who passed away on July 7, 2020 in Bamenda after an illness.

In her installation speech, the VC said the appointment was “a call to duty to serve the University community “promising that she and her collaborators will give the support needed for him to succeed in the daunting task ahead.

“You will realize after the installation that the job of a Registrar will mean you have your hands on deck 24/7. The responsibilities of a Registrar are therefore quite exacting. Work hard, apply best practices and you shall yield positive results” Prof Theresa Nkuo -Akenji prescribed”

She advised the new Registrar to prioritize collaboration, cooperation, respect of administrative procedures and regulations and respect of hierarchy in the discharge of his duties and never to allow emotions or the desire to please others plunge him into “trouble waters”.

Before commissioning the new Registrar, the vice chancellor used the opportunity to convey the university gratitude to Professor Victor Cheo Ngu, director of academic affairs who for the past 11 months conducted diligently and with zeal his role as the Director of Academic Affairs accumulatively the role of interim registrar.



Born in August 1972 in Kiyan-Kumbo, Bui division of the North west region, Prof. Kongnyuy Patrick attended Government Primary School in Kiyan, Kumbo from 1977-1985 and did his Secondary and high school education in St. Augustine College, Nso from 1985 to 1992.

The seasoned administrator is holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational History from Illori Univrsity in Nigeria, a Master’s degree in Educational Management from the University of Ibadan and a Ph.D in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Nsukka, Nigeria.

Prof. Kongnyuy Patrick started his career as an Assistant lecturer at the University of Buea in 2008. He was later on appointed to ENS Annex Bambili under the University of Yaounde I where he served as an assistant lecturer till 2011. He was promoted to the grade of lecturer in 2011 and Associate Professor in 2015.

He has served as Head of Department, Social Economy and Family Management of the Higher Technical Teacher Training College, Bambili, Head of Department of Sciences of Education, Higher Teacher Training College, Bambili, Vice Dean in charge of Teaching and Programmes at the Faculty of Education of the University of Bamenda. He has also been Member of Senate and Coordinator of Post Graduate Programs at Faculty of Education in the same university amongst others.

He has contributed enormously to innovative works in curriculum development and research and has over 17 publications to his credit in national and international journals.
